Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. Not only do they provide jobs and sales tax revenue, they also give back to local organizations and charities like very few large businesses do. It's imperative that we support these small, local businesses and provide them with the best opportunities for success.
One of the most important ways that we can do that is to make it affordable to do business in Claverack. To that end, we have cut town taxes nearly 16 percent over the last five years!
In addition, we've added a "Business Directory" to the town website to allow residents to find local goods and services and to connect with local small businesses. We've also worked to support new and growing local businesses by ensuring our Town Building Department is responsive to the needs of local entrepreneurs and property owners.
During the recent pandemic, as many area towns saw retractions in economic development, Claverack continued to see new investment and businesses opening.
Make no mistake, Claverack is working and we will continue to do our part to support the small business community!
