WHAT DO CAMPAIGN VOLUNTEERS DO?
Poll Watcher -- So a poll watcher is a volunteer who sits along side the election workers to observe the voting process. If they observe something that seems nefarious, they report it to a campaign worker who will then (if necessary) report it to the Board of Elections for remedy. The other important thing that the poll watcher does is check voters off on a list as they come in to vote. That list is then used to make phone calls later in the day to those voters who haven't yet cast ballots. This is an important (and fun!) role to play in the campaign.
Phone Calls from Home -- Volunteers who sign up to make phone calls from home will be given of list of Claverack voters (and phone numbers) to call. They make contact with the voter, encourage them to vote and ask for their support. The volunteer will also note, and report back, if the caller requests to speak with a candidate or campaign official for additional information.
These phone calls can be made from the comfort of the volunteer's home at their convenience. It's very easy!
Phone Banking on Election Day -- The phone bank is run the evening of Election Day. Volunteers will make phone calls to voters who Poll Watchers report have not yet voted. This is done from a central location with other campaign volunteers. Again, very easy to do.
