The migration of high-income residents into our town over the past several years has benefited our local economy, but it has also caused property values and rent prices to rise to the point that local residents simply can’t afford housing anymore.
In 2016, a developer tried to bring housing to our town that would have provided seniors and families with an affordable community complex that included walking trails, playgrounds and other amenities with nearby retail services.
This plan was met with opposition from a group comprised largely of outside democrats that sought to keep the developer out and keep living expenses high.
We need affordable housing in Claverack. We need to provide for our community members and the generations of families that have called Claverack home.
It’s time to stop denying our local seniors and families the dignity of having a place of their own and we're fighting to keep people here, in their hometown.
